1 Honeywood Coal Company 1997 Annual Hydro{ogic Report ~ Page 3 SP-5 also located in Bramiers Draw, has not had any recorded flow in nine years of monitoring data (1989 - 1997). The spring was noted as a seep during the first quarter of 1989 and dry during all subsequent monitoring events. SP-6 also located in Bramiers Draw, has recorded flow during two calendar quarters (1991 - 1997). The maximum flow was 1.8 gpm which was measured during the first quarter of 1991. During 1997, SP~i was noted as dry during the second quarter and damp during the fourth quarter 1 monitoring event. Alluvial Wells Four alluvial wells, AW-4 & AW-5, AW-6 & AW-7 were installed to determine if the quality of water in the alluvium near the alluvial valley floor near the San Miguel River is impacted by the mining operation. Two wells aze located along Bramiers Draw AW-4 & AW-5 and two are installed along Naturita Creek AW-6 & AW-7. The wells in each drainage, are located up gradient and down gradient of the Reed Chatfield irrigation ditch. The quality of water in the irrrgation ditch is also monitored to supplement the alluvial well monitoring data. The purpose of the alluvial wells is to determine if the quality of water in the alluvium is impacted by the mining operation. Two wells are utilized at each location because it is possible that the water in the alluvium up gradient of the irrigation ditch will be impacted, yet the water in the alluvium down gradient is not impacted. Since an alluvial valley floor is down gradient of the irrigation ditch, the distinction between the two monitoring points is important. AW-4 and AW-5, located in Bramiers Draw, were dry during the period ]992 through 1997. AW-6 and AW-7 were dry during the second quarter and fourth quarter monitoring events. The Reed Chatfield Ditch, monitoring point R-l, had flow during the second quarter and was dry during the fourth quarter. Bedrock Wells Two bedrock wells are located adjacent to the mining area and one well is located within the permit area BW-1, located east of the mining area has contained measurable quantities of water 1 during most monitoring events. BW-1 contained water during the second and fourth quarter monitoring events. 1 BW-2 is located in the northwest comer of the permit area. The well was dry during 1997.
