Only the upper part of the connecting road encounters similar conditions as the acces road; our recommendations for this connecting road are identical. It can be expected that the cut will be excavated in soils; nothing is known about the ground water conditions. We re- commend that the cut be again drained so that the saturation of the cut slope is prevented. We feel that a drainage system capable of dewatering to a depth of about ten feet should be sufficient to maintain the long-term stability; it should extend between the toe and the crest of the cut. Similarly, dewatering should prevent saturation of soils below the retaining wall supporting the fill on the north side of the pad. A good sur- face drainage system for the proposed facility is also essential. The_shop_and warehouse with the adjoining parking lot have a very similar character to that of the previously discussed substation; the same criteria can be applied for them. The_runo_ff pond_~_1_and_the_fresh_water_pond_~_1 are located outside the slide area. At the request of Tlerrick and Company representatives, we have inspected the design of the ponds to evaluate their potential impact on the slide; we believe that they have no impact on the stability of the old slides above them. A_waste_rock_conveyor will be built on the steep slope - ----- ---- ----- portion of the landslide area between the mine entries and the crest which forms the transition between the slide area and the large bench above it. The steep slope is marginally stable as it has been shown in this report, in our progress report and as it is evident from several small failures which developed within this area. 1
