Shrub density sampling
intensity in the reclaimed areas was in some cases greater than cover sampling, so that in addition
to the ten to twenty shrub density samples taken along the cover lransects, up to thirty (30) more
were located independently, making a total of as many as fifty (50) such samples in reclaimed
areas. Additional shrub density plots were located randomly as previously discussed. In Shrub
Density Areas 1 and 2, ten samples were systematically (uniformly) placed in wach of these
relatively small plots. In the two reference areas, 30 shrub density samples were taken in each.
Total number of shrub density lransects in each area was as follows:
Reclaimed Area Number of Transacts
1984 Wedge 50
1984 Wolf Creek 30
1987 Wedge 20
1987 Wolf Creek 30
1989 Wedge 20
1989 Wolf Creek 20
Wedge Pasture 50
Mountain Brush Reference Area 30
Sagebrush Reference Area 30
Shrub Density Area No. 1 10
Shrub Density Area No. 2 1 0
r~
LJ
3
