The Division has completed review of the 1999 and 2000 Annual Reclamation Reports
(ARR). Please respond to the questions or comments as necessary with 45 days of
receipt of this letter.
1999 ARR Review
Please use the new ARR forms for all future reporting (beginning with the 2001
Report). This form is available at http://mining.state.co.us/Forms/forms.htm.
The Division would suggest resubmitting the reports for 1999 and 2000 on this
form. You may find it less confusing and easier to use.
Picketwire Processing, Inc. (PPI) reports 145 acres disturbed, but 145 acres is
the total of long term disturbance of this mine. The New Elk Mine had been in
Temporary Cessation status during 1999. The Division believes that PPI the
operator intended to report that no new acres were disturbed in 1999. Please
correct as necessary.
3. PPI reports that 11.5 acres were backfilled and graded in 1999. Since this is the
total backfilled and graded acres for the entire site, the Division suspects that the
operator only backfilled and graded the 2.0 acres on RDA bench 4. Please
correct the number of acres backfilled and graded in 1999.
4. The report indicates that 11.5 acres were topsoiled in 1999. Eleven and one half
(11.5) acres represents the total acreage that PPI has topsoiled over the entire
site. Please correct this information.
5. The report indicates two (2) acres were seeded on RDA bench 4 in 1999. The
report does not indicate which seed mix was planted. Please indicate seed mix
and seeding rate used. This information should be included for each area
seeded in any given year.
