Each monitoring well is equipped with a nitrogen gas, air lift
i
water sampler to obtain water quality samples from a discrete
zone. Sand and bentonite are utilized to isolate the sampler. A
pressure transducer is placed approximately 20 feet below water
level with data recorded continuously at a surface data
acquisition system (see Comprehensive Monitoring Plan, Oct. 29,
1990 for more details on monitoring).
Dedicated Monitoring Wells Immediately Down-Gradient
Wells utilized to establish baseline conditions are:
Well Aquifer
Na26-EX-2 Dissolution Surface
Na26-89-1 B-Groove
Na26-89-2 A-Groove
Na26-89-3 Perched
This set of wells was completed in 1989, and samplers/pressure
transducers installed in Feb./March of 1990. Therefore, data was
obtained prior to ground water pumpage (water well), and mining
activities planned for 1991. See Table 2-4 for summary of April-
September, 1990 water quality data.
The water quality results for wells immediately down-gradient from
planned well field indicate three distinct water quality zones.
The Perched aquifer is low in TDS (Total Dissolved Solids),
conductivity, fluoride, SAR (Sodium Absorption Ratio) and high in
35
