Any
attempts to modify the areas would likely result in a less effective liner system through additional
construction activities. Removal of this material or in-place blending of the material would require
heavy construction equipment traffic increasing the compaction of the surrounding drainage blanket
material. Also, material removal, blending, and replacement activities aze likely to cause damage
to the synthetic liner; thus, additional extrusion seams will be required.
As the out of specification material Type 2 which was subjected to laboratory permeability testing
reflects material which is towazds the upper bound in terms of fines content, the extent of azeas
containing this material is small, and the peJmeabilities fall within the range for material Type 2
which meets the specification, no corrective action was deemed necessary by the Engineer and the
material placement was accepted.
A summary of the results of all QA/QC testing for this material is presented in .Appendix C.2.
6.2.3 Liner Sub-base/Clay Liner Component
QA/QC testing of the liner sub-baseJclay liner component, material Type 3, consisted of gradations
and insitu density and permeability measurements. Gradation testing conducted on material Type
3 has indicated that only 4 out of 42 samples tested failed to meet the enact gradation specifications.
These samples were slightly deficient in the percent passing requirements for the coarse fraction and
do not represent a significant departure from the material which is necessary to create a suitable sub-
base for the liner. Furthermore, this material had been blended with other Type 3 material during
placement to result in material which met the specifications.
aY 16 Ject o.
