.,
RECEIVED
Logan Wash Mine
Aanua- report MAR 2 4 2003
March 28, 2002 -March 27, 2003
Permit No.: M-1977-424 Division of Minerals and Geology
1.0 Introduction
This annual report has been prepared in accordance with regulations of the State of Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) and the regulations promulgated by the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board. The information in this report pertains to the period March 28,
2002 to March 27, 2003 (reporting period). Projected reclamation activities For the following
year are also presented.
The Logan Wash Mine, located approximately 12 miles northeast of De Beque, Colorado, is
managed by Glenn Springs Holdings, Inc. (GSHI) for Occidental Oil Shale, Inc. (OOSI). A
general site location map for the Logan Wash Mine is presented in Figure 1.
This annual report summarizes the reclamation status of the Logan Wash Mine. During the
reporting period, no surface reclamation work was conducted on the OOSI property or OOSI
right-of--ways on the adjoining U. S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) property. At this time,
GSHI requests to remain on Temporary Cessation status at the Logan Wash Mine Site. GSHI is
in the process of evaluating a reclamation schedule for Logan Wash Mine and will notify DMG
regarding removal from Temporary Cessation status. GSHI anticipates reclamation activities to
resume in 2003. Planned reclamation activities are partially dependent on the performance of the
pilot passive-water-treatment system now being tested at the site (see Section 4).
The remainder of this annual report is organized as follows
• Section 2: Disturbed Acreage Status
• Section 3: Monitoring Activities
• Section 4: Construction of Pilot Passive Water Treatment System
• Section 5: Reclamation Activities in 2002
• Section 6: Maintenance Activities
• Section 7: Anticipated Reclamation in the Year 2003
• Section 8: Anticipated Disturbance in the Year 2003
Please refer to Figure 1, the Logan Wash Mine location map, and Figure 2, the Logan Wash Mine
site map for features discussed in this report.
2.0 Disturbed Acreage Status
According to Exhibit E, the Reclamation Plan for Logan Wash (1981), 134.7 acres were approved
for disturbance within the permit area. However, only 113.6 acres have actually been disturbed
within the permit area. To date, it is estimated that at least 25 acres have been reclaimed at the
Logan Wash Mine Site. Surface structures that remain on site include a raise borehole and
ventilation fan area, two vault structures (one on the lower bench and one at the evaporation
pond), a small section of exposed piping and support structures from the retort drainage pipeline,
and monitoring wells LWCW-lA and LW-I 12, and Pond 1 (evaporation pond). Two additional
wells (LW 22 and LW 422? [ID uncertain]) were located on July 16'" near the main access road
Western Water & Land, Inc. 1 of 5
DMGLWann103.doc
3/6/2003
