Page 2
1. Continue monitoring water levels in all wells.
2. Monthly monitor field parameters in all alluvial wells, all surface
water sites, the spoils wells, the pollution plume wells, and wells
downgradient of present mining (GW-544P1, GW-S44P2, GW-544,
GW-S8-P1 , GW-ST) . ~ ~,' _S42P i `~ ~ f-- ~ ~ W ~4~
3. For the bedrock wells, do a full suite analysis semi-annually (June
and October).
4. For alluvial wells, do a full suite analysis tri-annually (April,
June, September).
5. For surface water sites, do a full suite analysis quarterly.
6. Monitor all springs to establish baseline data. They should be
monitored monthly for flows and field parameters except during
snowpack. A one-time, full suite analysis should also be performed.
They should submit to the Division as a minor revision an updated map and
table detailing each well, the parameters monitored, how often, and when. In
addition, they should be made aware that as mining progresses, their
monitoring program may change to reflect monitoring of those wells
downgradient of mining.
Following are my comments on their Annual Hydrology Report.
I. Groundwater
A. Quantity
1. Mention is made of possible vertical leakage from the Trout
Creek Sandstone to the bottom of the Wolf Creek Coal due to
depressurization while mining as an explanation for the
decline in water level 1n well GW-538. Can it be determined
that such leakage is occurring?
Gw-Ib ~,clCk-$
-- 2. Sevet~al wells are not reported in the 1983 report. What
happened to these wells? If these were mined through, that
should be addressed and the map updated.
3. On Exhibit 7-2, the well identified as SW-S42 should be GW-542.
4. It would be useful to have data from well GW-55 installed in
the Trout Creek Sandstone. This might help in the
determination of any dewatering going on in this unit. Water
quality was reported in 1983; why were water levels not
reported?
