{ Permittee Name: ~ewood Brick and 7yTe Co. ~ Page 2
~ Permit No: M-79-045
Operation Name: Church Pit
Anniversary Date: 02 / 28 / 95
1 (cont.)
Gravel - Jefferson County Road and Bridge Dept. is still
mining the gravel under a lease with the mineral right owners.
Gravel mining continued in Stage I & II ahead of the clay
operation, basically over the clay beds (blue). This is done
in accordance with the approved plan and serves to strip the
clay vein of material that we consider overburden. The
current gravel operation has disturbed 11.58 acres ± in the
mine. The amount of minable material left over the clay seam
is such that they began mining in Stage A on the south this
year (orange). The area over the clay seam is use as a
processing plant site to avoid disturbing any more area. The
area stripped in Stage B (orange) will become part of the new
plant when the gravel piles are removed from the clay seam.
(2) No reclamation was required this year. None will be required
until mining for both materials is completed in any given
stage. We began to remove part of pre-law overburden pile on
the southwest side of the facility this year (green). In
addition, we began to fill in the north slope of the old clay
pit to establish the slope into the excavation area.
(3) Clay - Mining will continue is Stage I, no new area will be
disturbed this year because we are mining in the area stripped
by the County. We will mine deeper into the clay veins
exposed in the past and advance the face to the north as more
of the clay vein is exposed by the gravel operation. This may
mean we move into the southern end of Stage II. Processing
will continue in the Plant Site Area in Stage 0, 3.38 ac. ±.
Gravel - Mining/stripping will continue in Stage II on the
north end of the clay operation. The sand and gravel operator
has disturb most of the area in Stage II above the clay vein
and will concentrate on mining to the top of the clay vein.
Sand and gravel will continue to be mined in Stage A this year
and the Plant Site may be relocated off the clay seam this
year. The material left on the clay seam is lower quality
than expected and material from Stage A has to be blended with
it to make an acceptable product.
(4) No reclamation is called for during the next year. However,
if the gravel operator reached the north permit line a
section of sloping will be completed from the existing surface
to the top of the clay vein. This slope will be part of the
north slope into the floor of the pit. We will continue to
work on the north slope of the old clay pit and may begin to
do sloping on the east slope if the gravel operator removed
the overburden pile next to the face on that side. If the
opportunity to sell this overburden continues we will be
working on the southwest overburden pile as well.
