DMG Permit No. M-88-112'' S kas C.U I S PQ.oJe~-°f /
January 2002 Monthly Sampling ~
~---
Dear Mc Dillie:
All required sampling was completed during the month of January.
The water treatment plant discharged a total of 9,805,900 gallons of water (30.10-acre feet) into the Rito Seco
during the month of January.
All surface water stations were inspected weekly and RS-4 and RS-6 was found to be dry.
Vacuum on the lysimeters was verified and no water was present to sample.
The piezometers on the main embankment of the tailing impoundment were checked on January 31, the
piezometers were dry or contained below 12 inches of water.
The west pit piezometers were measured for depth to water on January 31, with the following results:
BF-1 was 28.79 ft., BF-2 was 32.46 ft., BF-4 was 26.05 ft, and BF-6 was 31.89 ft. Other piezometers in the West
Mine area were also checked with the following results: PW-1 was 29.35 ft., PW-2 was 29.41 ft., PW-3 was 36.75
ft, and PW-4 was 31.50 ft.
The underdrain was measured at approximately 37 gpm.
On January 31 an attempt was made to pump the collection pond leak detection system. The system was frozen
and we were unable to get a measurement.
The seeps remain dry.
With DMG approval a total of 895,700 gallons (2.75-acre feet) of water was pumped from the evaporation
system collection ponds to the tailings impoundment during January.
As reported in the July 2001 monthly report, the pump in well BF-5 tailed and after numerous unsuccessful
attempts at removal it was decided to replace [he well. During the week of December 10, 2001, a replacement well
(BF-SR) was drilled. Location of well BF-SR is approximately 13 feet northwest of BF-5. A new pump and
totalizer was installed and pumping begun on January 17, 2002.
P.O. Box 310 San Luis, Cotocado 81152-0310 (719) 379-0798 Fax (719) 379-0713
