RECEIVED HOM~~'.S~TAxE
DEC 17 19~a MINING COMPANY
N11N£D LANfi R~LAMATiQN ~-Y!91~?!
1`,plp Ds9t 4i y~µr3r' ~~
December 13, 1984
Mr. Mark Loye
Senior Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Annual Geotechnical Inspection - Pitch Mine
Permit No. 77-4
Dear Mr. Loye:
We are enclosing a copy of the report for the 1984 geotechnical inspection
of the overburden dumps conducted for Homestake Mining Company (HMG) by Steffen,
Robertson and Kirsten. We wish to provide you and the Division staff a status
report on the activities undertaken to follow the recommendations made in SRK's
report.
10800 Level
Tne inspection report recommends filling the existing gully between the
natural slope and the dump and stabilizing the channel on the west side of the
dump. Homestake has graded the 10800 level in a manner that both reduces the
gully to a gently-sloping Swale and removes water from the dump and diverts it
through a stabilized channel on the west side of the dump, This area was also
seeded in August and October, 1984. Homestake further graded the drainage on
the top and face of the dump and rip-rapped the main drainage Swale within the
graded and seeded area.
10780 and 10740 Level
The inspection report recommends some regrading to reduce erosion.
Homestake has initiated this grading as a part of its continuing reclamation,
This is scheduled for completion when weather permits next year.
1726 COLE BOULEVARD • GOLDEN.
