Field activities included
morning testing of the bentonite slurry at the mixing station and at the trench (station 17+30).
Each sample was tested for viscosity, unit weight, and sand percentage by volume (trench samples
only). Morning testing of the soil bentonite backfill-was conducted at station 16+40. The sample
was tested for slump and unit weight Trench depth measurements (both to key and total) were
performed at station 17+90, with a sample collected. Test results and measurements are presented in
the attached report.
Terracon was notified at 12:30 PM by Steve with Geo-Con that a hole in the gasoline supply line was
created at station 18+00. Terracon left Bay Shore Ponds for one hour, when Terracon arrived on-site
at 1:00 PM, Terracon observed gasoline on the surface of slurry trench approximately from station
• 17+90 through station 18+20. At about 1:30 PM, Jim Papstein area manager with Rocky Mountain
Pipeline and Paul Henahan with Fremont Environmental arrived. Fremont Environmental contained the
gasoline from station 16+20 through station 18+50. At 3:40 PM gasoline was observed passing through
the containment area at stations 16+20 to 18+50. Plan of action as of 4:00 PM was to vac gasoline
from slurry trench, and continue slurry trench construction from station 18+80 in order to displace
slurry to allow Rocky Mountain Pipeline to proceed with repairs. Slurry wall construction is to
continue through the night. Terracon will observe slurry the following AM shift for any product
that may stilt be present in trench.
Terracon Rep: Timothy M.
