Thormalen Environmental Engineer Union Carbide Corporation Metals Division Uravan, Colorado 81436 RE: The Sunday Mine and Deremo-Snyder Mine - Annual Reports Our file nos. 77-285 and 77-288, respectively Dear Mr. Thormalen: Our Division has received and reviewed the annual reports for the above cap- tioned operations.. The annual fees of $275 .00 for each mine have also been received, and the receipts for these fees are enclosed. In general, I find these annual reports to be adequate under the terms of the Mined Land Reclama- tion Act. However, I do have one general question about the activity on each site. I will outline the situation as I see it. I note that the permit for the Sunday Nine is to have an affected acreage of 20 and the permit for the Deremo-Snyder Mine is to have an affected acreage of 60. To date the affected acreages for these two mines are 14. 7 and 51.5, respectively. Although neither mine has a total disturbed acreage that ex- ceeds the permit area, I am not sure from my examination of the original per- mits whether or not the areas affected by the radio tower (in the case of the Sunday Mine) and the new and/or planned vent holes (in the case of both mines) were mentioned as affected land in the original permit. That is, are these areas outside of the original permit boundaries? If this is the case, the new areas of disturbance should be added on as amendments to the pernits.
