Debt of Nsturel Resources
The division has reviewed your letter of September 20, 1984 relative to an
experimental passive mine drainage treatment system at the inactive Thompson
No. 2 Coal Mine.
As there is need to determine cost effective methods for controlling inactive
mine drainage, the division supports this as a suitable research and
demonstration site. The division will not require a Colorado Discharge
Elimination System (CDES) permit at this time, although it is understood that
Snowmass Coal Company will be making application for continued maintenance of
the system, should it prove to be viable.
In general the project has merit and it is requested that your staff keep us
appraised of the findings. Initially, it may be appropriate for our staffs to
meet to discuss more of the details relative to the system and monitoring.
Y.
G.
Director
Water Quality Control Division
GGB/RJS/lc
ac: Greg Parsons, Planning and Standards Section, WQCD
Don Simpson, Permits and enforcement Section, WQCD
4210 EAST 11TH AVENUE DENVER,COLORADO 80220 PHaNE (303) 320-8333
