1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report, 'Deserado Mine Thirteenth Annual Hydrology Report' is submitted to the Office of Mined
' Land Reclamation in fulfillment of requirements outlined in a letter and attachments dated October
10, 1984, from Mr. Dan Mathews of what was then the Mine Land Reclamation Division. This report
presents the hydrologic data and analysis resulting from the Deserado Mine hydrologic monitoring
' program for the period October 1, 1996 to September 30, 1997.
' The purpose of this Annual Hydrology Report is to describe the present hydrologic conditions in the
Deserado Mine area in relation to the baseline hydrologic data in order to:
' • Define trends in the hydrologic parameters.
• Determine what impact development of the Deserado Mine has had on the hydrology of
' the area.
• Determine what mitigative measures should be undertaken in the future.
• Predict future impacts on the hydrology of the Deserado Mine area.
This annual hydrologic report has been organized into three major sections. Section 1.0 is the
introduction, Section 2.0 is a summary of the hydrologic data collected this monitoring year and
' Section 3.0 summazizes observations from the monitoring program in relation to development of the
Deserado Mine.
' The Deserado Mine underground fire of January 31, 1996 and subsequent sealing of the
underground working district required that Blue Mountain Energy (BME) accelerate the B-Seam
development and mining. As per the technical revision no. 40 approved by DMG in June, 1996, BME
is required to do fhe following:
' • Sample and analyze bedrock groundwater holes in federal leases C-8424 and C-8425 for
the parameters listed under alluvial once prior to entering the lease for mining and once prior
t to the wells being mined out or bond release. Sampling will be limited to the middle facie
zone. The initial sampling and analysis of these bedrock holes were completed during this
water year.
' • The holes in C-8424 and C-8425 will be monitored for water level depth two times (spring
' and fall) per year. Such program was initiated.

' 1
