BANTA, Dlreetor
DATE: February 16, 1988 r-
T0: Sandy Brown
C-;-
FROM: Jim Pendleton \`"~"
RE: SUBSIDENCE•AND SLO ABILITY IdONITORING REPORT - BEAR MINES N0. 2
and 3 ( C-81-033)
I reviewed the annual monitoring report which you forwarded to IRY attention.
This report, submitted February 5, 1988 presents the results of a survey
performed in October of 1987 by Ute Engineering and Surveying Company,
Consultant to the Bear Coal Company.
This report presents the results of survey monitoring of subsidence monuments
• placed to document subsidence of the mined areas at the Bear Mo. 2 and 3
Mines. The report also presents the results of survey monitoring of slope
stability monuments placed at the reclaimed Bear No. 2 portal bench and within
the active surface facility areas of the Bear No. 3 Mine.
The report documents that all monuments have remained stable during the past
12 months, with displacements recorded from July, 1987 to October, 1987
ranging between 0.0 and 0.17 feet. Survey results are presented for
monitoring performed since August, 1985. The past examination has determined
that the monitoring performed in August of 1985 was flawed. Many apparent
large movements are documented between August, 1985 and July, 1986. The
operator determined that these movements were the result of a bench mark
survey error and should be discounted. Actual movements at the monuments
throughout the Bear No. 2 and No. 3 Mine areas have been small.
I recommend acceptance of the January, 1988 report, as submitted.
vjr
5328E

STATE OF COLORADO
~•
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
