Additional Page
RECEIVED 2000 Annual Report
JAN 0 5 2001 Daniels Sand Pit #2
M-73-007-SG
Division a,Walla,$BadGa91a9V Transit Mix Concrete
Anniversary Date: January 7
Overview of Permit Year: During the 2000 operating year there was a great deal of activity at this site.
This was primarily due to the very active construction market throughout the Colorado Springs area.
Mining proceeded nearly through Phase 3E as well as into Phase 4E. Phases lE and 2E are very nearly
completed with mining. Very little change occurred on the West Side of Academy Boulevard other than
continued backfilling of the northern area.
Annual Report Maps: The annual report maps for this year are very little different from last year's map
due to the lack of change in the actual areas affected. The only major change was the area contained
within active mining on the east side of Academy. Thar area became more compressed in Phase 3E and
expanded northward in the vicinity of the boundary between Phase 1E, 2E, and 4E.
There is one additional map provided in this report. This map more closely describes the Schlage
Lock Groundwater Remediation program being conducted on Transit Mix property. This map is
provided as a clarification that arose during an inspection late in the permit year. The Division expressed
a concern about this facility and whether adverse effects might occur with nearby mining. At about the
same time this annual report was submitted a technical revision was also submitted, as requested by the
Division. This revision provides the details regarding this plan and why no adverse effects should occur.
These facilities are not affected land, according to the definition in the Rules and Regulations, because
these facilities are not a result of the mining operation. These facilities are required as part of a ground
water contamination treatment program being conducted by Schlage Lock whose plant is located about
a mile east of this site. Transit Mix allowed the remediation to occur on their property because it was
considered to be the best place to conduct this treatment with respect to groundwater flows and the
contaminated groundwater plume. The technical revision is required because the facility is within the
permit boundary, although not affected land.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land has not changed significantly since last year.
Revegetation: The site is stable and is not subject to erosion.
Expected Activity (2001): Mining will proceed through the remaining portions of Phase 3E and then
continue to move eastward into Phase 4E. Few changes will occur on the west side.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a corporate bond.
Transit Mix Concrete 2000 Annual Report M-73-007-SG Daniels Sand Pit #2 Page 1 of 1
