Lamm <br />Governor <br />-- <br /> <br />DATE: <br />February 27, 1986 M <br />T0: Peter O'Connor <br />FROM: Steve Renner <br />~'f( ~ RE: 1 CHIMNEY ROCK COAL MINE ANNUAL HYDROLOGIC REPORT, 1985 CALENDER YEA <br />I have recently reviewed the Chimney Rock Coal t4ine Annual Hydrologic Report <br />(AHR) for calender year 1985, also submitted with this report was the fourth <br />quarte r 1985 pond inspection report. <br />Ponds <br />No problems with any ponds were noted during the December 18, 1985 <br />inspection, Snow cover at the site prohibited a through inspection, however. <br />Note that the 002 Pond is 25S full of sediment. The operator, either in the <br />permit or by written communication, should state what maximum sediment storage <br />capacity for this pond is while still being able to store a 10 year, 24 hour <br />event. For most ponds the clean out level is 60t storage capacity. <br />Surface Water <br />The monitoring program was designed to collect data from Stollsteimer Creek <br />above (S-1 ), at (S-2) and below (S-3) mine disturbance, each site is monitored <br />monthly for discharge, and quarterly for water quality. In addition, Deep <br />Canyon Creek is monitored for discharge during periods of flow (usually march <br />through July). This is not required by the approved permit. <br />Flow of Stollsteimer Creek is seasonally variable, with highest flows expected <br />during spring runoff. Discharge decreases through the summer. Base flow <br />conditions generally exist from early to mid fall. <br />The mining operation has <br />Stollsteimer Creek.
