I feel that the
reclamation at this mine site is beyond my expectations. So
far, the reclamation is consistent with Las Animas County
Zoning Regulations.
The two buildings located at the mine site (1) Shop and (2)
Wash Plant both appear to be built to code. However, I have
not been able to find any building permits that were issued
to the Raton Creek Mine for these two structures- The water
tank that is also located on the mine site appears to be
built well and I do not see any problems with this tank
staying on the property along with the two other structures.
After the tour and reviewing my files in the Planning
Office. I have no objections to this Reclamation Plan as it
exists now-
I have only one major concern pertaining to the 675 foot
long 8 foot culvert that is located at this site- According
to Map #14 dated May 17, 1993, the B foot culvert which
travels east to west under the shop will remain in place
after the reclamation is done. My concern is who will be
responsible for the maintenance of this underground culvert-
In the worst case scenario, should this 675 foot long
culvert not be properly maintained and we experience a heavy
rainfall. this could block or plug the existing drainage
Michael A.
