traneect decreased from 5.35 in 1990 to 3.15 in 1991. These differences
are also likely related to the influence of grazing. Many of the same
species were noted within the reclaimed areas, but because of the
grazing their cover was reduced. With lower cover values, the
probability of encountering the species on the sample traneecte was
reduced.
COMMENTS
After three years of sampling, it appears that the revegetation of
the disturbed lands at the site is quite successful. Increases in cover
by big sagebrush suggest that over time the reclaimed areas will begin
to resemble the surrounding native big sagebrush shrublande.
It will be interesting to see if the reclaimed areas will rebound
from the influence of grazing. The 1992 cover data should provide
insight into the resiliency of .the vegetation and its ability to
withstand grazing pressure.
