This is the sixth annual monitoring report for the Nelson Pit
operated by Flatiron Paving Company, P.O. Box 229 , Boulder,
Colorado 80306 . It covers the period of February 7 , 1983 to
February 6 , 1984 . Please refer to your file number 74-70 .
The following questions and answers provide information on the
mining and reclamation process at Nelson Pit. The attached map
shows the areas affected.
1 . What are the locations and number of acres affected during
the past year?
Approximately 10 acres in the middle of the pit were
excavated last year.
2 . What are the locations and number of acres reclaimed this
year?
15 cottonwood trees were planted in the northern 2 . 5 acres .
3. What are the locations and number of acres in various stages
of reclamation?
The berm along the southeastern edge of the pit was extended
last year, and this will be fertilized and seeded next year.
It covers about 2'h acres .
4 . What species of vegetation have been planted? What are the
locations and approximate dates of planting?
The cottonwood trees in the northern 2 . 5 acres were planted
in the spring of 1983.
5 . What are the types , quantities and locations of fertilizers
used?
None this past year.
6 . What is the company 's appraisal of reclamation efforts?
Reclamation is proceeding as planned and looks satisfactory .
7. What are the locations and numbers of acres to be affected
during the next reporting year?
Plans are to excavate approximately 8 acres along the eastern
edge of the pit next year.
