Box 591
Somerset, Colorado 81434
RE: Replacement of S1oDe Stability Monument #SB3
Dear Ms. Welt:
The Division has reviewed West Elk Coal Company's response to our concerns
regarding the status of lower waste pile slope stability monu ment #SB3. The
Division was concerned because the survey data suggested that the monument had
declined in elevation b.y 0.92 feet. West Elk responded that the monument had
been damaged and the apparent 0.92 foot drop in elevation ref lected the fact
that the survey data listed was tnat of the ground elevation next to the
monument.
While this response is acceptable, the Division directs West Elk to install a
new monument to replace the original monument #SB3. Subseque nt survey data
snould then be related to the initial location data for the replacement
monument.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
I ~J
l~i~u-~~r ~ (~/ ~~~.~
tAatthew S.
