Sandstone Facies are referred to as upper, middle and lower respectively as a matter of <br />simplicity. The Deserado Mine coal seams are located near the bottom of the Coal and <br />Siltstone Facies (middle zone). Water levels were measured in the groundwater monitoring <br />piezometers according to the schedule in Appendix A. The water level is measured quarterly <br />in Qal-5, and samples collected annually to analyze for the water quality parameters listed in <br />Table 2-1. <br />As a part of the mid-term review technical revision (TR48), DMG approved discontinuing the <br />monitoring of the following wells: <br />TW2-7U It has remained dry <br />TW2-7L It has remained dry <br />2-7U It has remained dry <br />2-7M It has remained dry <br />2-7L It has remained dry <br />35-4U It has remained dry <br />35-4L It has remained dry <br />RM-1 It has remained dry <br />35-4M This hole is venting methane; presumed dry <br />36-2U This well is in a sealed, inactive mining area <br />36-2L This well is in a sealed, inactive mining area <br />BME also requested that the monitoring frequency be reduced to annual for all bedrock <br />wells and quarterly for alluvial well Qal-5 and the water sampling requirement be annual for <br />Qal-5. DMG approved BME's application on November 10, 1998. These changes took <br />effect for the 1998-1999 water year. <br />During October 1984, the Taylor Draw Reservoir facilities were completed and the reservoir <br />began filling with water. The area around the alluvial groundwater holes has become a <br />shallow water mud flat area with the deposition of mud, silt and sand at high reservoir levels. <br />As a result, alluvial groundwater monitoring holes Qal-1, Qal-2, Qal-3, Qal-4 and Qal-6 have <br />been destroyed and are no longer available for monitoring. Alluvial well Qal-5 is still being <br />monitored. <br />' During May 1987, longwall panel 1 was mined past the location of 2-12U. The location was <br />subsided and the monitoring hole could no longer provide usable data. Accordingly, <br />' Western Fuels, Utah (now BME) applied for a Technical Revision on 6/7/88 to eliminate <br />groundwater monitoring at 2-12U. The Technical Revision was subsequently approved. <br />3 <br />
