' INTRODUCTION
' The 1992 Annual Hydrologic Monitoring Report for the Bear Coal
Company, #3 Mine, is hereby submitted by Bear Coal Company, Inc.
in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board (MLR) and pursuant to the Colorado
' Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act
The Bear #3 Mine, operated by the Bear Coal Company, Inc., is
' located along the North Fork of the Gunnison River approximately
1/4 mile east of Somerset, Colorado, along State Highway 133.
' Methods of analysis were consistent with EPA standard testing
procedures, the parameters of which are presented in Table 1.
' Field test data was collected quarterly and laboratory test data
was collected annually.
' Drawing 1 shows the locations of the groundwater monitoring
points AA1 and AA3 and is included as Appendix 3.
GROUNDWATER MONITORING
' Water samples were collected at monitoring stations AA1 and AA3
using a hand bailer. YSI (Yellow Springs Instrument) Model #33
was used to measure water quality, temperature, and conductiv ity,
' and salinity in the field. The Ph levels were taken using a Cole
Palmer Model #5941-00 Ph meter. All other parameters were
determined by collecting samples in precharged bottles and
' submitting them to ACZ La boratories, Inc. of Steamboat Spri ngs,
Colorado, for analysis. The results of ground water data
collected during 1992 are presented in Appendix 1. Graphs of the
' pertinent water quality parameters are also shown in that
appendix, along with the quarterly field suites for the two
' wells.
' S URFACE WAT ER MONITORING
There are no surface monitoring control points within the permit
' areas.
Quarterly inspection reports of the two sediment control ponds
' located in the permit area are i ncluded as Appendix 2. There was
no discharge from either of the sediment control ponds during the
1992 reporting period.
