•
Red Canyon Mine - 1995 AHR
Page 3
<10. The TSS measurements indicate that no degradation of the
quality of water occurred on this stretch of the Carbon Ditch.
The sediment pond did not discharge during the year. The pond did
not have any significant amount of water in it during the year. A
"spring" is located in the northeast corner of the pond. During
May the spring produced a small pond but it was not sampled for
field parameters. During September the spring was just a damp
spot. Cattails have flourished in the damp spot.
GROUND WATER
Table G-94 shows the ground water monitoring results for this water
year compared to the averages of previous monitoring results for
the same months. The alluvial piezometers (P-1 & P-2) showed water
levels consistent with prior years averages.
The Division's letter dated March 3, 1994 requested that the wells
completed in the E-Seam be monitored to determine at what level the
workings have been flooded.
• The 1987 Annual hydrologic report predicted the water in the mine
workings would reach the water level in E-1, 6355, in 1993. The
water level in E-1 in September 1994 was 6367.3. The water level
in E-1 During May and September 1995 was 6366.9 and 6366.8
respectively. Based on the last two years of monitoring data,
there is no indication the water level in E-1 is increasing. It is
unlikely this monitoring well reflects the water level in the mine.
The elevation of the surface where the mine portals were developed
is approximately 6400.
Minrec proposes to continue monitoring the depth to water at well
E-1 at least one more year to confirm the water level in the well
is relatively stable.
MINE WATER
The underground workings were not accessible for mine inflow
monitoring in 1995 nor will they be accessible in the future. The
water level in the mine is projected to stabilize below the portal
according to the Raman Tempo Report, Volume 8 of 8 of the permit
application. For a projection of the mine filling schedule, please
refer to the 1987 Annual Hydrologic Report.
CONSUMPTIVE USE
None.
•
