-3- <br />Alluvium <br />Empire Energy has eight alluvial monitoring wells. Three wells are completed <br />in the Williams Fork Alluvium, Figure 18, and five wells are completed in the <br />Yampa River Alluvium, Figure 17. Except for normal seasonal fluctuations <br />occurring during peak runoff from snowmelt, there have been no significant <br />changes in ground water levels in the alluvial wells. Maps of the water table <br />surface of the Yampa and Williams Fork Alluvium indicate that there has been <br />no change in the direction and magnitude of the hydraulic gradient from 1983 <br />to 1984. <br />Springs <br />Four springs were monitored by Empire Energy during 1984. The average <br />discharge values for Haxton, North and Lippard No. 2 Springs are presented on <br />Table 30, Summary of 1984 Spring Discharge Data. The average discharge for <br />these springs are 0, 18 and 42 gpm respectively. The maximum discharge for <br />North and Lippard II springs occurred in April. No discharge from Haxton <br />spring occurred during 1984. Discharge data for the No. 1 Strip Pit is <br />presented on Figure 28. Maximum discharge occurred in the spring during peak <br />runoff from snowmelt. The average discharge from the No. 1 Strip Pit was <br />32 gpm. <br />Mine Inflows <br />Plots of discharge for the No. 5 and No. 9 Mines are presented on Figures 15 <br />and 16 respectively. The average discharge from the No. 5 Mine was 737 gpm <br />and the average discharge from the No. 9 Mine was 156 gpm. Until May 1984 <br />discharge from the No. 5 Mine was measured as instantaneous discharge from the <br />settling ponds. In the spring of 1984 a volumetric totalizing flow meter was <br />installed on the discharge end of the mine dewatering pumps. <br />Discharge from the No. 9 Mine has been measured by an instantaneous device <br />throughout the life of the mine. Discharge values for the No. 5 Mine did not <br />exceed predicted values of inflow which ranged from 760-890 gpm. (Table <br />III-20 of the permit application) and for the No. 9 Mine discharge values did <br />not exceed predicted values that ranged from 200-320 gpm. <br />Groundwater - Water Quality <br />Trout Creek Sandstone <br />The No. 5 Mine Well and the Okie Plaza Well are monitored on an annual basis <br />for full suite parameters and on a quarterly basis for field parameters. <br />Water quality data for the Trout Creek Sandstone is summarized on Tables 5 and <br />6. Mean T.D.S, for 1984 was 780 mg/1, (Table 6) while for 1983 the mean <br />T.D.S. was 921 mg/1. It should be noted that there is an error on Table 7 of <br />the 1983 Hydrologic Report. The mean value of 832 mg/1 is the same as the <br />minimum value. The average pH of 7.95 in 1984 has not significantly changed <br />from a value of 7.9 for 1983. <br />i <br />
