Box 449
Florence, Colorado 81226
RE: Subsidence Reports, 11/89 through 4/91, Southfield Mine, C-81-014
Dear Mr. Weaver:
The Division would like to acknowledge receipt of the Southfield subsidence
reports. The Division has had an opportunity to review them and basically
agrees with the reported conclusions.
The permit application projected an angle of draw between 20° and 25°~ the
information collected on the intensive grid suggests a 29° angle of draw, as
reported,'fhe Division recommends that the "predicted areal extent" line on Map
17, Mine Plan Map, be modified to reflect this larger angle of draw.
The Division also had additional recommendations for future reports. Prepare
a Mine Plan Map which shows the type and extent of current underground
workings as well as lineation of the mined seam (Jack O'Lantern vs. Red
Arrow). Please put a bar scale on the cross sections so that changes in scale
due to replication can be identified. Lastly, a plot of the angle of draw on
the cross sections would be helpful.
As an additional aside, our geotechnical specialist, Bruce Stover, suggests
that future subsidence grids which would be used to determine angle-of-draw,
be placed partially outside the predicted affected area, so as to have a
scientific control.
Sincerely,
' ~ ~ ~~cJ
C~~~ ,
Catherine W.
