Daniel M. Russell
Bachus Pit, Inc.
9042 South 106 Road
Alamosa, Colorado 81101
719-589-3302
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
303-866-3567
July 6, 2007
RE: Annual report, Bachus Pit, M-1995-034.
Deaz Sirs:
The attached map shows the condition of the pit. Very little material was
removed this past year and no major changes are anticipated for the upcoming
year. I expect to mine between one half to one acre this yeaz. I anticipated
beginning reseeding this past spring but was unable to accomplish that task. We
were working with Alamosa County to level the bottom of the pit in May as part
of a material donation we made to the local Boys and Girls club. The ground
water level was too high and made for a soft pit bottom if much material was
removed and the idea was abandoned. We will reseed 3 to 5 acres during the
next yeaz.
The USGS will be holding a major conference on the Geology of the San Luis
Valley and Northern New Mexico this September. They find the geologic strata
exposure in the pit to be one of the best examples of Lake Alamosa sediments in
the San Luis Valley.
rely, /~
aniel M.
