ATTACHMENT FOR THE 1q2 ANNDAL REPORT
ffII C
FOR THE SAND PIT - M-77-213 C~ly'1 {
CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY
MAP: No map is provided because the changes from last year have been of
little significance. The only changes are better described in narrative
than can be shown on a map. Essentially the entire bottom of the pit is
affected land, as it essentially was last year. The only difference
would be a new label for the "STOCKPILE AREA". That label would read
"STOCKPILE AREA & WASHING FINES DISPOSAL."
PIT CONDITION: This pit is under the control of Transit Mix Concrete,
Castle Concrete's sister company. The permit remains in Castle
Concrete's name. It is being used by Transit Mix as a washing disposal
area. This is being done as a part of the coordinated amendment for
both operations that was approved a number of years ago.
The 2 acres of backfilled and graded land is the land on the north
end that was established when the Fountain Mutual Ditch was moved from
the south side of this operation to the north side so the sand dike
separating the operations could be removed. Although topsoil was
replaced the quality of the Blakeland sand is so poor it is little
different from the sand that ie mined. Vegetation suttees has been
limited.
It will take many years before the disposal of washing fines builds
up to the point where the final topography will be established.
Therefore, for essentially the entire remaining life of this site
reclamation will be in progress in the form of a slow backfill process.
It is likely that the 25 acre affected land will be highly stable for
several years. However, the process of disposing of the washing fines
is essentially a back£illing and therefore a reclamation activity. In a
sense, a major portion of this site could be considered as under
reclamation, but because it is a part of the processing we wish to have
it considered as affected land yet to be reclaimed.
