J-
~.. classified as the same material utilizing the Unified Soils
Classification. These materials, however, were not grouped into
I
single soil types, due to their differences in grain sizes,
plasticity, etc. These soil types included:
-- o clayey sand (SC);
o silty sand (SM);
I o low plasticity clay (CL);
o low plasticity clay (CL);
o silty sand (SM);
I -- o low plasticity clay (CL);
- o clayey sands (SC).
I
Material types were separated by boring location with an attempt
I _ to show the similarity in materials encountered throughout the
I -- investigation and to provide location of the various materials.
- Although the consistency thickness and relative location of each
I of the materials encountered varied, the type of materials
encountered were similar and repetitive throughout the field
investigation program. The testing performed on these materials
I was utilized to correlate visual observations and to provide
index testing for correlation to more elaborate strength and
material characteristics tests. Results of the laboratory tests
are provided in Appendix A, and discussed in the sections which
follow.
3.3 MOISTURE ~j2 CLASSIFICATION TESTS
Moisture tests were performed on each of the samples taken during
the drilling program to evaluate the drainage and moisture
u
12
..]
