1
' Annual Hydrology Report
April 28, 1988
Page 17
'
Some groundwater wells exhibited slightly changed conditions in s ome instances
and the subsidence monitoring deep wells showed some influence from mining.
Most wells remained fairly constant as compared to previous years.
A discussion of the wells is as follows:
' o Refuse area wells SG-1 and GP-1 showed lower levels than previous years.
This is due to lower precipitation amounts in 1987.
o Refuse area wells GP-3 through GP-5, as in previous years, contained no
water.
o Well 22-H-1 and 22-H-2 (Barren Member wells) continued to show seasonal
' fluctuations. Levels remained near those of previous years.
o F-seam wells 23-H-3 and 23-H-4 remained at the same levels or increased
' slightly. These wells show no seasonal fluctuations.
Barren Member well 38-H-1, as previously described was affected by
subsidence.
o Barren Member well 38-H-2 oontinued to have casing blockage problems which
' have occurred since it was installed.
this well due to the problem. The Very little data was collected at
casing was apparently damaged by
subsidence as described earlier in this section.
' o Barren Member well 38-H-3 provided no useful well data in 1987. Moisture
problems with the casing and later eamnunication with the mine workings,
probably caused by subsidence, precluded the determination of water levels.
' o Barren Member wells B-32, SOM-1, 45-H-1 and 45-H-2 exhibited sporadic or
small responses to seasonal influences which indicates a limited but
apparent connection to surface recharges.

o F-seam wells C-76, SOM-2, and SOM-16 show no seasonal or annual fluctuation
and have little or no surface water connection.
' o Barren Member wells SCY~13 and SOM-80 have shown seasonal variations in
previous years. During 1987, SOM-80 showed very little or no response to
' seasonal fluctuation, while SOM-13 was similar to previous years.
o Wells A-1, A-2, and A-3 are located along the margins of creeks and exhibit
seasonal fluctuations. The wells are shallow (less than 65 feet deep).

o The shallow subsidence monitoring wells, SW-1 through SW-6 were the same as
previous years. SW-2 wntains a minimal amount of water which remains
' static.
Well water level hydrographs for 1979 to 1987 are contained in Appendix C.
1
1
