Subsidence Field Observations <br />West Elk Mine <br />August 28 and 29, 2001 <br />3.1.7 Location 4 <br />Location 4 is at Deep Creek near Location 5 of 2000. <br />• The sediment load in the stream appears greater than what was observed last year, but is <br />not related to mining activities. <br />• The cross-sectional area of recent high water, based on the high-water mark, is about 10 <br />square feet. <br />3.1.8 Location 5 <br />Location 5 is at a spring above the northern edge of un-mined longwall panel 25 between <br />Locations 2 and 3 of the 2000 report. <br />• A spring is flowing down [he eastern ATV [rack. <br />• The spring flow seems to be more than what was observed last year. <br />3.1.9 Traverse D-D' <br />Traverse D-D' is from Location 3 on Deep Creek to oldjeep road to Coal Creek Mesa. <br />• The sediment load in the stream appears to become less southward (upstream) along the <br />traverse (see video for details). <br />• The recent sand and silt deposits along the stream also decrease southward. <br />• There are signs of large Flow events that were not observed during the traverse on <br />August 28, 2000.
