1986 Annual Reclamation Re~4~
1. Location and number of acres affected:
No additional areas were disturbed during 1986. The MLRD approval of the
requested technical revision on 3-20-86 of Area X12 reduced the total
disturbed acreage by 0.80 to a total of 125.42.
2. Locations and number of acres reclaimed for year; total 4.25 acres.
Area X8. Ventilation Fan Site, total 0.41 acres reclaimed.
Area l~13, Miscellaneous Access Roads, additional 3.84 acres reclaimed;
laying generally west (downslope) from Area #16, Communications Facility.
3. Location and number of acres currently under reclamation; total 6.63
acres.
Area X13. Miscellaneous Access Roads, new surface process area, 2.17
acres.
Area r~15, Heater Treater and Loadout Fac111ty, initial 0.46 acres.
Area #17, Exhaust Stack, initial work on entire 3.00 acres.
Area X19, Surface Process Control, initial work on entire 1.00 acre.
4. Vegetative restocking species. locations, and dates of planting for Item
#2 above.
Areas >F`8 and ,f 13 were seeded following recontouring operations with the
approved mixture 1n Exhibit E-Reclamation Plan. This mixture was
fortified with the addition of shrub seeds in lieu of transplant
turberlings as approved by letter CMLRD; CBM, 7/7/86. This work was
in itlated in September 1986 and completed 1n early November 1986.
5. On the areas mentioned in f2 and #4 above, commercial fertilizer was
spread at the prescribed rate after recontouring was completed during the
Fall of 1986.
6. Formal success ratios on all areas revegetated since 1980 generally show
that the grass species establish well except in those areas alongside the
main L.W. road which are subject to over-grazing by cattle; primarily 1n
the spring. The high mortality rate of the associated turberling may
partially result from the "growth medium" actually restricting and/or
reducing the available moisture to the seedling. Thus the use of shrub
seeds directly used in #4 above.
7. No additional acreage disturbances are expected. Initial reclamation
efforts on additional "disturbed areas" will begin as facilities removal
allows as well as continuing efforts to complete the reclamation efforts
initiated during 1986.
