Lamm
Governor
DATE: 19 September 1984
T0: Sandy Emrich
FROM: Jim Pendleton ~ -
RE: Foidel Cre ine' 84
%~~
Mid Year Subsidence Monitoring Report
The Foidel Creek underground mine permit application committed to the
quarterly performance of subsidence monitoring with the semi-annual submission
of appropriate subsidence monitoring reports. Twentymile Coal Company has
submitted its second required semi-annual subsidence monitoring report for the
Foidel Creek undergound mine. Mining has now passed beneath the channel and
the adjacent alluvium of Foidel Creek. The survey results attest that the
limited extraction plan utilized within this area has prevented measurable
subsidence, as projected within the original subsidence control plan.
The operator also observes, on page 3 of the report: "The underground mine is
dewatering the adjacent Wadge overburden aquifer and drawdown in the vicinity
of the workings is being monitored by existing wells in the aquifer. Alluvial
wells being monitored above the workings in the Foidel Creek Mine floodplain
have not shown any drawdown or depletion of water from the alluvium. Water
monitoring data will be included in the 1984 Hydrologic Monitoring Report for
Mining Permit C-056-82."
I agree with the company's conclusion that measurable subsidence has not yet
been observed. Based uypon the companys recitation of the hydrologic
conditions, it is logical to believe the company's observation that the
alluvial aquifer of Foidel Creek has not been affected. However, we should
specifically review the annual hydrology report, upon its submittal, in order
to attest to that conclusion.
cc: Mike Long
Doc.
