RECLAMATION REPORT
Coors Energy Company (CEC) has continued to contract the services of both Cooper
Aerial Survey Company of Tucson, Arizona and BE&K/Terranext, LLC (Terranext)
in Lakewood, Colorado to provide aerial survey and optical scanning/digitizing
services for the 1998 reclamation evaluation and tracking work. In addition to the
increased accuracy that has been brought to the overall process through the use of
these two firms and the latest mapping and drafting techniques, CEC continues to seek
assistance from Tenanext in several areas to supplement its own understanding of the
"reclamation process".
No additional acreage was "disturbed" during 1998. Approximately 11 acres of the
"old" A-Pit haul road located north of the former A-Pit site were reclaimed, with the
excess spoils (roadbase and spoil materials) from the haul road being used in the
reclamation of A-Pit. The western portion of the A-Pit haul road and northwest
corner of A-Pit (3.5 acres) were covered with two (2) feet of topsand in 1998. The
remaining portions of the "old" A-Pit haul road are scheduled to be topsanded in
1999(+), concurrent with, and subsequent to the placement of topsand on A-Pit, itself.
Ash disposal in A-Pit was concluded in March 1998. An area of approximately ] 2.9
acres was then covered with six (6) feet of spoils and graded during the remainder of
the yeaz. Topsand placement, spreading of fertilizer and cover crop (sorghum)
seeding are all anticipated during the Winter/Spring of 1999.
No new reclamation seeding was accomplished during 1998. Following the
recommendation of its consultants, CEC scheduled several previously seeded
acreage parcels for either interseeding (still within a five year "window" from initial
seeding), or reseeding (outside the five year window and the time clock for charting
vegetation success must be restarted). Four parcels (a total of 27.2 acres, more or
less) were interseeded, while three parcels (6.5 acres, more or less) were reseeded.
These acreages are identified on the Vegetation/Kevegetation Map (page 136). The
seed mixture that was used for both interseeding and reseeding is a subset of the
approved seed mix for use at this site:
Common Namc
Blue gmma
Indian Riccgmss
Prairie Sandrecd
Sand Blucslem
• Thickspikc Whcatgrass
Snccics Namc
Boulelaua gracilis
Oryzopsis hymenoides
Cn/amovilfa /ongijo/ia
Andrapogon ha!lii
Agropyron dasvstachyum
Seeds/lb.
