' URS Operating Sen ices, Inc San Acacio landfill Trip Report
START. EPA Reeion VIII Revision. 0
Contract No. 6g-~~'?-0031 Dale: 042000
Page 3 0l S
' background) (Figure 2). Soil cores from all other locations and depths did not have concentrations on the
PID and/or FID [hat were above background levels.
One attempt was made to collect groundwater from the site using the Geoprobe®. The slotted rod was
' pushed using driving rods at Geoprobe® location SA06. The slotted rod was driven to a depth of five feet
bgs before refusal occurred. More powerful equipment will be needed if groundwater is to be recovered or
^ soil samples are to be collected at a depth greater than 12 feet bgs because of [he dense soil resistant strata.
' 4.0 ANALYTICAL PARAMETERS
The hvo soil samples were sent to Laucks Laboratory for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), Semivolatile
Organic Compounds (SVOC), Pesticide/Polychlortnated Biphenyls (PCB), and Target Analyze List (TAL)
' total metals (except cyanide) analysis. Laboratory analytical results are in Appendix B. No SVOCs,
Pesticides, or PCBs were detected in the hvo samples. VOC and TAL total metal results are presented in
' Tables 1 and 2, respectively. Results are compared to the Superfund Chemical Data Ivlatrix (SCDM)
Reference Dose Screening Concentration (RDSC). The RDSC is asubstance-specific intake concentration
' based on a noncancer reference dose and estimates of a daily exposure level of the specific substance
(Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 1996). Toluene, e[hylbenzene, and xylene were [he only organic
compounds detected. All of these analyzes had concentrations significantly lost er than the specified RDSC.
Of the metal analytes detected, only selenium and manganese had concentrations greater than the normal
' range found in soil in the western United States. Tn sample SA-SS-O1, selenium had a concentration of 0.71
milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) and manganese had a concentration of 1.130 mg/kg. These are both slightly
t greater than the normal ranges of 0.09 mg/kg to 0.56 mg/kg and 192 mg/kg [0 752 mg/kg, respectively.
Although these analyzes are greater than the average concentration, they are still significantly lower than the
' specified RDSC.

1

t ~s-oozol.oo
F:~STARi\SanACaaolandlill\AnalTripRepon'•Text wpd:bas
