iiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiii
STATE OF COLOIZADU
Roy Romer, Govei
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
DATE: June 6, 1989
T0: Tony Waldron
FROM: Berhan Keffelew ~ -
RE: 1988 Annual Hydrologic Report, Eagle No. 5 and No. 6 Mines,
Permit File No. C-81-044
I have reviewed the Annual Hydrologic Monitoring Report for the above
mentioned mine.
On the questions raised in 1987 regarding the accuracy of the No. 5 Mine
discharge meters, the company will provide the water quality data once the
testing and evaluation is completed at a later date.
For the most part, the required data for the water quality appears to be
provided. However, it would help a lot if sample results for the specific
sample dates were provided rather than the mean and standard diviation for the
year. Even some of the raw water quality data provided does not have the
complete results for the specific sample dates.
Some questions I have on the water quality are:
Well 81-O1 (Middle Sandstone)
Why was 3/88 the last date for which water quality data was provided?
Wells AVF3 and AVF 6 (Williams Fork Alluvium)
The Total Dissolved Solids have increased to 1500 mg/1 and 1310 mg/1
respectively. These figures are 22-35% higher than previous years.
since the increases are mostly due to calcium, magnesium, sulfates and
chloride I tend to agree with the report that the increase could not be
attributed to mine discharge.
Since there appears to be no inaccuracy in the analysis of the water quality
data, the Division would appreciate any help the mine can provide us in
identifying the cause of these increases.
6867F/scg
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
