This can pose a dilemma when assessing laboratory quality assurance of solutions <br />with low salinities. <br />In the table, historical average values for potassium and chloride were converted to meq/1 to <br />show effect of these parameters on mass balance calculations at multiple ground and surface <br />water sites at the Pittsburg and Midway, Edna Mine. The use of mass balance calculations to <br />ascertain laboratory quality assurance should include values for potassium and chloride when <br />TDS levels are less than 550 mg/1. Values for potassium and chloride may be obtained from <br />laboratory analyses or historic average values at the site. If a mass balance calculation is <br />performed without this data, it would be prudent to raise the accepted quality assurance <br />standard from 5%. <br />vj r <br />5276E <br />
