ANNUAL REPORT
Operator: United Companies of Mesa County
Operation: BLM Pit # 1
File Number: M-2001-100
Anniversary Date: May 15, 2004
This pit was active during the report year, although, not year round. United was in the pit
once in 2003 and we plan on mining once, maybe twice ,depending on the market,
during the next report year. We are at this location now for the first time this year.
This time we are finishing up mining the Block 1 area and will begin mining the Block 2
area. Activities so far include stripping both top soil and overburden from Block 2.
These two materials were stockpiled separately on the Hall Pit area. and are identified
with signs as they are hard to tell apart.
The pit floor has a "roll" (sort of a hump) running generally east-west . This shale
material is not being mined and therefore reduces the quantity of mine run material for
the crushing operation in Block 1 and probably Block 2 as well.
The pit on located on a flat top mesa. On high wind days we shut down and hit the whole
area with our water trucks to get a crust on the loose dirt.
