• 1995 Production and Geologic Conditions
Approximately 520,000 tons of coal was produced from the Mine in 1995 under
Federal Coal leases C-37210 and C-53356. Production was sustained during the
entire year.
Mining at the West Mine during 1995 entailed both panel advance development and
pillar retreat extraction. Panel zZ was developed to near the limit of the west
thick coal pod. Panel ZZ- 1 North was developed and then conditions outby the
section forced the min;ng operation to retreat from the panel. A small section
between Panel Z aryl Panel A A was developed and pillared. Roars were driven off
II West Sntm,;r,G but the coal quality was poor so this section was abandoned.
Panel X was advanced to what was believed to be the fault line. Roars were
developed off Panel X to develop 4 Right, 2 Right and 1 Right sections. See
Map No. 2-5 which presents the location of the mining performed during 1995.
Panel ZZ:
Mined Length: Panel ZZ was developed 1050-feet on advance in 1995. Only a
small portion of the panel was pillared.
Overburden Thickness:
Varying from 1,000 to 1,500 feet.
Mining Height: 9-11 feet on advance; 15-18 feet on retreat.
• Panel ZZ-1 North•
Mined Length: Approximately 1950 feet of panel advance development. Only
a small portion of the panel was pillazed. Conditions outby
the section forced the mining operation to retreat from the
panel.
Overburden Thickness:
Varying from approximately 1,000 to 1,500 feet.
Mining Height: 9-11 feet on advance. 15-18 feet on retreat.
Panel X
Mined Length: Approximately 2,050 feet of panel advance.
Overburden Thickness:
Varying frcm approximately 1,500 to 2,000 feet.
Mining Height: 9-11 feet on advance. 15-18 feet in retreat in pillared
areas.
r1
J
