' III. AREAS MINED AND RECLAII4IED IN 1998
~, ' 3.01 East Side of Ceutral Quarry
Mining was conducted along the east side of the Central Quarry during 1998. Final highwalls
were completed on Bench 2 and Bench 1 along the entire east wall to approximate elevations
of 6,530 f[ and 6,490 ft, respectively.
Reclama[ion concurrent with mining continued on the eas[ side of the Central Quarry.
Approximately 2.0 acres on Bench 4 and Bench 5 were reclaimed by placing approximately
18 in. of topsoil in preparation for seeding.
1
3.02 South End of Central Quarry
' T
he south end of the Central Quarry was mined in 1998. This end of the quarry was
extended to the south and southwest. Two new benches were established at approximate
' elevations of 6,570 ft and 6,530 ft. Mining advancing to the southwest created a broad,
relatively flat area a[ an elevation of approximately 6,526 ft. The existing slope at the south
end of the Central Quarry is temporary and the highwalls and benches will change as the
' quarry is further developed.
3.03 Floor of Central Quarry
The Central Quarry floor was mined in the southern end. The bench at E1. 6,490 ft was
' lowered to El. 6,450 h. Material was placed at the northern end of the quarry floor for the
construction of a future haul road. Relatively high specific gravity rock due to localized iron
mineralization continued to be encountered in this mined area.
'
3.04 North Quarry
During 1998, mining advanced deeper within the northwest section of the North Quarry. The
primary benches being extended to the west were at EI. 6,655 ft, EI. 6,695 ft, and El. 6,775
ft. Land disturbed by mining activities extended approximately 100 feet to the northwest
along the northern ridge because a bench was established at El. 6,915 ft. The direction of
mining in the North Quarry continued to be primarily in an east to west direction.
' Mining has varied from the phasing suggested in Amendment No. 4 in that the large fla[ area
shown developed at EI. 6,455 ft down to the plant level has not yet been established. Instead,
a large flat area was established higher up at approximately EI. 6,580 ft and the mining effort
' to date has developed a regular progression of benches higher and farther west first, before
lowering the areas north and west of the plant. This variation has no impacts to Limits of
Mining or Limits of Disturbance and was made to preserve the circumferential haul road for
t use in development of the upper parts of the North Quarry and [o delay work immediately
above the plan[. Work above the plant will require careful blasting and excavation to address
potential personnel safety issues and to avoid damages or shutdown of the new crusher.
' G?PROIECTS~:O_OO.NOmson Quarry~00:'~annuL Repon Gmmchnicy nddvMum~1998~9Bepi mahup dw' Page 3
