Mr. Karl Koehler -2- March 19, 1993
Cyprus Orchard Valley Corp.
2. The elevation for spring 30 is shown incorrectly in Table 1. It should be 7840.
3. SW-09 is labeled as being in both the East Roatcap Creek and West Roatcap
Creek. It is understood that this is an overland diversion. Please clarify the
nature of this station.
4. Well MW01 is shown in Table 1 as having an elevation of 6716.15, yet this is
supposedly at the coal loadout. The correct elevation is most likely 5716.15.
Please correct as appropriate.
5. Spring 31 is in West Roatcap watershed rather than East Roatcap as currently
identified.
6. The following sites or wells could not be located on Maps 4-1, 8-1, or 8-3:
UERC, LERC, MWO1, MW02, MW03, OVWM, DH700, GR777, 001, 002, 003,
004, 005, and 006. Please add these sites to the appropriate maps.
Monitoring Frequency
1. Overall, the required monitoring frequency was met at most sites with a few
insignificant omissions. Please insure that when a site is visited but is not
discharging or dry that a notation is made in the monitoring record. This includes
NPDES sites as well.
Water Quality
1 . Overall, water quality ranges from good to very good. Although no measurable
impacts can be implied or identified, the Division is requesting your comments
concerning the following phenomena:
al The field EC readings (4) from June to October of 1991 at site SW-10 are
four times larger than the historical average for the same site. Other data
from sampling indicate the potential for error in the field reading. Please
comment on this discrepancy.
b) Why does spring 25 show no flow or sporadic flow yet have a complete
record of EC readings? Also, this spring is 5 to 10 times higher in EC than
most other springs and is above an area impacted by subsidence. Please
provide comments on this phenomenon.
c) An increasing conductivity from upstream to downstream in East Roatcap
Creek was noted by COVCC in the AHR narrative. Please provide your
comments as to why this is occurring.
