(BMRI) -San Luis <br />DMG Permit No. M-88-112 <br />1997 Annual Report <br />Dear Mr. Dillie: <br />MAR 16 1998 <br />Division of Minerals & Georogy <br />The following is a summary of activities at BMRI's San Luis Mine during 1997. <br />Reclamation Activities <br />The following is a description of reclamation activities for 1997. (See attached map.) <br />Battle Mountain Resources Inc. had a small crew that worked on mine reclamation from January, <br />1997 until March 14, 1997. During this period 369,975 tons of material were backfilled into the <br />West Pit. On April 01, 1998 the BMRI mine reclamation contractor, San Luis Valley Earthmovers <br />(SLV), mobilized on site. SLV placed 487,125 tons of material in the West Pit backfill during <br />1997. SLV placed 117,750 tons of top soil in the West Pit area. They also placed 225 tons of rip <br />rap material in drainage areas to prevent erosion. All required sloping, grading, contouring and <br />buttressing required by our permit was completed in the mine area. The BMP <br />was installed in the West Pit as required. The outfall of the BMP was constructed with water bars <br />and 16 bales of certified weed free straw was also used to disperse flow. The two required <br />piezometers, BF-1 and BF-2, were drilled into the West Pit backfill to monitor recharge of tl~e <br />aquifer. <br />On August 11, 1997 SLV began reclamation of the Tailings Impoundment. During 1997 SLV <br />placed 1,409,175 tons of Santa Fe material and 120,525 tons of top soil in the Impoundment. <br />' 1,000 rocky mountain juniper seedlings were planted at the East Pit area. 1,750 rocky <br />mountain juniper and 1,750 pinon seedlings were planted in the Pink Gneiss pit. <br />The West Pit area, Waste Rock "B", the access road and the top of Waste Rock "D", the haul <br />road to the East Pit and approximately twenty (20) acres in the Tailings Impoundment were <br />~ drill seeded.
