The weather conditions far the flight were
excellent with the temperature of 40°F, little or no wind and clear sunny skies. The flight started
at 0700 hrs and ended at 1030 hrs. Approximately one and one half hours were spent flying the
Seneca II West area from 0800 to 0930 hours while one hour each was spent surveying the Seneca II
from 0700 to 0800 hours and Yost from 0930 to 1030 hours.
Most all of [he elk and deer observed were actively feeding or moving making them easy to
observed such that it was felt that a good count was made.
Seneca II - A total of 48 elk and 162 mule deer were observed during the survey (Table 3). All
of the elk observed were off the mine and revegetated areas. Several groups of mule deer however
were observed in the mountain brush "islands" of the reclaimed areas.
All three eagle nests within the survey area were observed. Only the one nest located in section
27 was active. A pair of Golden Eagles were observed a[ the nest site and the nest contained three
chicks. Another eagle was observed perched on the sandstone cliff near the nest site in section 13.
This nest site and the nest site in section l0 were inactive.

6
