Evaporation Pros Pond• <br />1 <br />1 <br /> <br />There are eiz ponds at the Southfield Hine property as show on Figuree 8 <br />and 10. Table 5 lists the surface areas of each pond and the estimates of <br />annual evaporation. The water lost to evaporation is a consumptive use <br />and ie equal to 8.2 acre-feet per year from the eia ponds. The rate of <br />evaporation is higher during the summer months than during the winter <br />months. with 70 percent of the lose occurring from Hay through October. <br />Since the surface areas of the ponds will not increase in the future. <br />consumptive use will not change. Evaporation losses from the Black Water <br />Pond ie associated with the coal preparation plant and is included in the <br />consumptive use of that facility. <br />Total Conaoptive Dee <br />Total monthly water requirements do not change greatly through the year <br />but are slightly higher in the warmer months because of increased <br />evaporation from ponds and the need for outside duet suppression. Monthly <br />consumptive uses for present and future conditions are show in Table 6 <br />and Table 7. The total annual consumptive use by the mine is presently <br />39.5 acre-feet. with 2.9 acre-feet per month in the winter and 3.8 <br />acre-feet per month in the summer. At a peak production of 500.000 tone <br />of clean coal. if achieved. the total annual consumptive use will be 58.8 <br />acre-feet. ranging from 4.6 acre-feet per month in the winter to 5.5 <br />acre-feet per month in the summer. <br />Op BEIATIOESBIP OF 1SIEE WATEY DSAGB QI'~ SDEFACE F1.OVS <br /> <br /> <br />The mine area is located almost entirely within the Newlin Creek <br />drainage. Ae described previously. water levels in the observation wells <br />represent a piezometric surface as represented in Figure 5. Since ground <br />water movement is in the direction of decreasing potentiometric levels. <br />ground water movement in the mine site area ie to the northeast. somewhat <br />parallel to drainages in the Newlin Creek basin. <br />-23- <br />
