This letter also serves as a follow~up
discussion to the October 22 message that I recorded on your
voice mail.
During the week, the active pond averaged 1.64 ppm CN-wad
and 1.83 ppm CN-total. The collection pond averaged 0.48 ppm
CN-wad and 0.62 ppm CN-total. The weekly sample of the
inactive pond, collected on October 19, showed 0.26 ppm
CN-wad and 0.37 ppm CN-total.
As per the telephone message of October 21, the active pond
(lower pond) sample showed cyanide concentrations of 4.75 ppm
CN-wad and 5.05 ppm CN-total. Samples collected the next day,
October 22, showed concentrations of 0.59 ppm CN-wad and 0.91
ppm CN-total.
As specified in TR-010, the DMG was immediately notified of
the cyanide levels. The October 17-23 weekly average and the
October simple monthly average for pond compliance will not be
significantly influenced by this anomaly. We will continue to
closely monitor the situation and inform the Division of any
changes.
If you have any questions, please call.
Sincerely,

Alana L.
