This work was undertaken [o determine is the Prairie and Pere-
grine Falcons previously sighted over the area are in fact nesting in
places what would interfere with the muck dumps. (1n the basis of the
evidence, Wirtz concluded that neither type of fa_l_c_o__n__is_ n_e_s_ting in
either gulch.
The evidence is of two types: (1) Golden Eagles and American Kestrels
compete with falcons for territory and are not likely to be seen in the
same locale, ~owever, both were found residing in the vicinity of Smith
Gulch where the falcons were suspected. Hence, it is concluded that no
falcons are nesting in this area. (Z) No falcons were sighted in over
twelve days of observation by a highly skilled observer.
This work relieves our concern about dumping muck in Smith Gulch. There
is no evidence that the proposed dumping will endanger any birds protected
by law.
IIIIIlAl1111111111 a
999
AMR:sl
