Kerr Coal - 2004 Annual Hydrology Report February, 2005
2.0 MONITORING AND ANALYSES
Water monitoring activities during the 2004 water yeas (Oct. 2003 through Sept. 2004} were generally based
on the revised hydrologic monitoring schedule as approved in Technical Revision No. 19 (I'R-19), Table 61
(revised August 1999). TR-19 included a proposal to reduce monitoring activities. In response letters dated
January 20, 1999 and October 1, 1999, the State of Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG)
accepted the following modifications to that monitoring schedule:
Surface water sites 300, 306, 314, 316, 317, 318, 322, and 327, and ground water sites AP-3
and AP-4 at the loadout, have been dropped from monitoring. Monitoring of the ground
water wells in the Sudduth Coal Seam {79-61) and the overburden (79-1, 79-2, and 79-3) is not
required until the last two years preceding final bond release (2005 water yeaz).
With the exception of deferred sampling of monitoring wells AP-1 and AP-2 in May rather than April (due to
frozen conditions) sampling during the 2004 water year occurred on schedule as listed below. All field data
and sample co]lection for the 2004 water yeaz was conducted under the direction of James Mossman of Kerr
Coal Company. All sample analyses were performed by ACZ Laboratories, Inc. of Steamboat Springs,
Colorado.
• Quartedy Monitoring - AO-2A, SP-Ol, AP-1 and AP-2 (3 events)
• Annual Monitoring - 79-1, 79-2, 79-3, and 79-61 {deferred)
This report discusses the groundwater and surface water monitoring activities and summarizes the data
collected during the 2004 water year in the following sections:
• Section 3.0 -Mine Area Groundwater (Water Tablet
• Section 4.0 - MineAreaAlluoial Groundwater
• Section 5.0 - L.aadout Area Alluvial Groundwater
• Section 6.0 -Mine Area Surface Water
• Section 7.0 - I~adoutArea Surfacr Water
• Section 8.0 - Wellln+pection
• Section 9.0 -Future Monitoring
Field and laboratory data are included in Appendices A through D.
