Kerr Coal - 2004 Annual Hydrology Report <br />4.0 MINE AREA ALLUVIAL GROUNDWATER <br />February, 2005 <br />Field measurements were taken at alluvial well AO-2A in October 2003 and on a montlily basis in 2004 from <br />March through September. Field data aze presented in Appendix A, 2004 Field Data. Water samples were <br />collected and analyzed in Ottober 2003 and in April and July of 2004. As of January 1999, the parameter list <br />for alluvial well sample analysis was reduced to include only major elements and no trace metals. The <br />individual analyses of samples collected aze presented in Appendix C, 2004 Mine Area Alluvial Water Quality <br />Analyses. Table 1, 2004 Groundv~ater,Quatt'ry Statirttc, includes a sumrnazy of the water quality data for well <br />AO-2A for the 2004 water yeaz including die muiimum, maximum and mean values. The mean annual <br />values for field parameters and the laboratory results for each of the past 8 years are presented in Table 3, <br />Hirtaric Mine Area Alluvia! IP~aterQuak'ty Data. The water levels recorded for AO-2A over the last 8 years are <br />shown on Figure 1, tYllne Area Groundwater Lzrelr. Figure 2, EC vr. TDS-Ii'/ellAO-2A, shows the relationship <br />between electrical conductance and total dissolved solids levels over the last 8 yeazs. <br />Wells AO-2 and AO-2A are located in Bush Draw, downstream (east) of the northern extent of the <br />reclaimed Pit 1 azea. In 1992, low water levels and the sflted condition of well AO-2 resulted in the inability <br />to collect samples from this location. Well AO-2A was installed to a depth of 14 feet in January 1993 and <br />was located adjacent to well AO-2, replacing die existing well. See Map 1, Mine Area Monitoring Station ,for <br />general well location. The change in wells is appazent on the EC and TDS data.
