A-4 POINT LOAD TESTING
Point load tests were performed at regular intervals along
the length of the core. Both axial and diametral tests were
' performed to provide a quantitative measure of the core over
the entire cored intervals. The testing was performed in
accordance with the procedures recommended by the International
Society for Rock Mechanics.
' The point load test, which induces a tensile failure of
the test sample, produces results which have been shown to
' correlate closely with unconfined compressive strength. Test
results have been reduced and converted to "equivalent" com-
' pressive strength. The results of point load testing are pre-
sented on Plate A-16.
